Hearing the word itself brings a wave of enchanting melodies, that weaves through the air like a symphony of longing. The melody dances on winds, casting a spell of both beauty and warning, leaving a trail of enigma in its wake. Just like a captivating muse, the siren’s song resonates deep within ,stirring emotions and igniting the imaginations. its hunting melody lingers, a reminder of the power and charms that lies within the depths of the unknown.
Most people get reminded of the American fantasy drama television series “Siren” played by Eline Powell released in 2018 because it talked about the mermaids and stuff related to the ocean but going deeper into it this post is not about mythical creatures that are said to have existed, this is about something else….
Back to a 2014 memory, my English teacher, Madam Lydia came in class with a list of questions and a large percent of them where in parables and puzzles . Questions like what comes up when the rain comes down? What letter in the alphabets is also a drink? What letter in the alphabets is both a water body and a body action? - the class was like who even cares to answer those questions , they would not come up in the form two final examinations. So the all class stared at her with silence and no indication of if we were even thinking about anything in our minds to give back a response. Not to mention being the only female teacher in the school staff, she was very strict and always hard on students - my school was a all-girls boarding school.
So my favorite part of her class was the vocabulary session. She taught us several vocabulary that we were to make some sentences about them and that’s how some of us got better in English speaking and writing. One of my favorite vocabulary that I fell in love with and stuck in my mind was “ Siren” . Ask me why? Because she asked us by relating it to something . “ do you know that the sound made by an ambulance and police cars has a name? None of us knew about it and so waited for an answer after a lot of trial and error in answering because she promised a gift to whoever got a correct answer for it.
So that word “ siren “ stuck in my mind for the rest of my days. Anytime I hear one , I find myself speaking the word or whispering it between my lips “ it’s a siren”
A siren acts as a warning , an alert about something incoming, something that’s on the way and most of the time it brings attention . So whenever you hear it , you know there is a car carrying a patient in critical condition or not . Being a young writer, I took the word very personal and too much literal to life.
I remember one of my friend was back from her mom’s funeral and one night during our evening classes she busted into tears after hearing the siren that was arriving to a dispensary next to our school - that was too emotional for us all but I blame it to the silence the class was too quite due to the after-five policy, were every after 5pm no one was allowed to talk to the other -we all had to remain silent unless spoken to by a teacher and not more than that. I think it was the memories and imaginations of the struggles her mother faced during the last hours of her life when she herd of the sirens and their again I took it by heart that when ever I saw an ambulance, always in a rush , I feel the pain of what the person in there is going through , struggling between life and death. What comes in your mind when you hear a siren?
As humans, we have thousands of sirens that come to us day to day , they always demand attention but some of us ,come to realize it when its already too late and some in an instant. Sometimes, early in the morning on my way to college while waiting to cross the road , and staring at the long traffic jam , I see the hearse with white roses decorated in a name of someone who has passed away…some read as” “goodbye mama”, “In loving memory”, “forever in our hearts”…
There! A reminder to live your life well , fix the path before its too late comes rushing in my mind… very simple sirens we ignore that really mean big. Some of us get driven by our emotions into strange path that help us define ourselves. But do not build that firm foundation with the lies that hide behind emotions.
A simple reflection in old time relationships, our parents especially back in the days-were taught to find love in someone. Just like my mother, she was at home and there arrived my father and some old men that came to give a proposal of marrying the oldest daughter from her family. He never knew that it was my mom, how she looked like, what her favorite things were, what was her talent, he knew nothing about her but slowly after their marriage they begun the journey together, that was according to my mother’s narration about marriage.
Unlike these days were are guided by emotions that this person is the perfect match for me, and because of the strange feelings the person gives us, the early comfort we get from them, blinds us. Some warnings show up , we choose to Ignore.
SIRENS ARE LIKE RED FLAGS.
It’s very important to pay attention to what feels incorrect at the beginning just like emotions are said to be scam, so when you choose to proceed with caution and always ready to stand head on regardless of what’s coming forth. My new friend Xenzo just added a hint on my post leak describing what red flags are. He said” well, everybody has red flag just depends on the angle you are viewing the flag, it my just be black.”
Well just to add up , it doesn't matter what you choose to keep next to yourself….most of the things we choose to ignore in the very beginning are foundations of what makes us leave in the end. Think about it!
No one is perfect, what’s bad to you might be amazing to somebody else . We just have to go deeper into the bottom of our inner self and find the comforts of accepting what we really want . You can change someone either way into someone great for yourself.
tell me something about your sirens?
It felt like goosebumps reading this! ✨
